“Just got an email from a high school student asking if I would recommend Berklee College of Music, as compared to taking a year off to travel the world. [...] So if travelling Europe as a vagabond for a year is what seems more scary and exciting, do that! Though if that feels like slacking or avoiding, and going to music school is more scary and exciting, do that!” – Derek Sivers
Ik denk dat de wetten van de fysica beginnen te veranderen zodra je “durft”, zodat ineens alles mogelijk wordt…
I can’t believe how foolish I was to start my first company. Just me in my bedroom with no experience, making a little website, when I was up against giant IPO-funded competitors.
I was an over-confident punk, thinking I had the answer, and everyone else didn’t.
But it worked.

A question such as “Am I the best lover you’ve ever had?” is dangerous because it has only one answer that can make us truly happy. “What do you like best about my lovemaking?” is brilliant because it has only one answer that can make us truly miserable.
- Daniel Gilbert
Our brain offers us an interpretation of the way things are. Because those interpretations are usually so good, we do not realize that we are seeing an interpretation. Instead, we feel as though we are sitting comfortably inside our heads, looking out though the clear glass windshield of our eyes, watching the world as it really is. We forget that our brains are talented forgers, weaving a tapestry of memory and perception whose detail is so compelling that its inauthenticity is rarely detected. The mistake we make when we unthinkingly accept the validity of our memories and perceptions is the same mistake we make when we imagine our futures.
- Daniel Gilbert
Doing the unrealistic is easier than doing the realistic.
It’s lonely at the top. 99% of the world is convinced they are incapable of achieving great things, so they aim for mediocre.
Therefore, competition is fiercest for “realistic” goals. Easier to raise $10M than $1M. Easier to pick up the one “perfect 10″ in a bar, than the 5 “8″s.
Having an unusually large goal is an adrenaline infusion that provides the endurance needed to the end. Realistic goals are uninspiring and will only fuel you through the first couple hurdles, then you give up.- Tim Ferriss
