If you stop looking to get things from life and realise that your best ever experiences have just been the total presence of the moment, all negativity and doubt just drifts away. This doesn’t mean you don’t try for things or make changes in your life but that you genuinely don’t care whether someone likes you or what is going to come out of a situation.
You just enjoy the fact that there is someone and a situation.

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Choose your words, for they become actions.
Understand your actions, for they become habits.
Study your habits, for they will become your character.
Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

November 23rd, 2009A question such as “Am I the best lover you’ve ever had?” is dangerous because it has only one answer that can make us truly happy. “What do you like best about my lovemaking?” is brilliant because it has only one answer that can make us truly miserable.

November 22nd, 2009Our brain offers us an interpretation of the way things are. Because those interpretations are usually so good, we do not realize that we are seeing an interpretation. Instead, we feel as though we are sitting comfortably inside our heads, looking out though the clear glass windshield of our eyes, watching the world as it really is. We forget that our brains are talented forgers, weaving a tapestry of memory and perception whose detail is so compelling that its inauthenticity is rarely detected. The mistake we make when we unthinkingly accept the validity of our memories and perceptions is the same mistake we make when we imagine our futures.

November 21st, 2009Doing the unrealistic is easier than doing the realistic.
It’s lonely at the top. 99% of the world is convinced they are incapable of achieving great things, so they aim for mediocre.
Therefore, competition is fiercest for “realistic” goals. Easier to raise $10M than $1M. Easier to pick up the one “perfect 10″ in a bar, than the 5 “8″s.
Having an unusually large goal is an adrenaline infusion that provides the endurance needed to the end. Realistic goals are uninspiring and will only fuel you through the first couple hurdles, then you give up.- Tim Ferriss

November 7th, 2009“You are never dedicated to something you have complete confidence in. No one is fanatically shouting that the sun is going to rise tomorrow. They know it’s going to rise tomorrow. When people are fanatically dedicated to political or religious faiths or any other kinds of dogmas or goals, it’s always because these dogmas or goals are in doubt.” – Robert M. Pirsig

October 8th, 2009The ceramics teacher announced on opening day that he was dividing the class into two groups. All those on the left side of the studio, he said, would be graded solely on the quantity of work they produced, all those on the right solely on its quality. His procedure was simple: on the final day of class he would bring in his bathroom scales and weigh the work of the “quantity” group: fifty pound of pots rated an “A”, forty pounds a “B”, and so on. Those being graded on “quality”, however, needed to produce only one pot — albeit a perfect one — to get an “A”. Well, came grading time and a curious fact emerged: the works of highest quality were all produced by the group being graded for quantity. It seems that while the “quantity” group was busily churning out piles of work – and learning from their mistakes — the “quality” group had sat theorizing about perfection, and in the end had little more to show for their efforts than grandiose theories and a pile of dead clay.

October 5th, 2009I recently picked a new doctor. After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing ‘fairly well’ for my age [I just turned 60].
A little concerned about his comment, I couldn’t resist asking him, ‘Do you think I’ll live to be 80?’
He asked me, ‘Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?’ ‘Oh no,’ I replied. ‘And I’m not doing any drugs, either!’
Then he asked, ‘Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs? ’ ‘Not much’ I replied. ‘My former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!’
‘Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?’
‘No, I avoid the sun as much as possible,’ I replied.
He asked, ‘Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?’ ‘No,’ I replied. ‘I’m being extremely careful.’
He looked at me and asked, ‘Then why do you even give a shit?’
